Caring

We've been studying the letter "C" this week.  Caterpillars, Cars, and Caring are a few of our favorite words.

Today, while doing the dishes, I said to Savannah: "Practice writing your name on your tracing sheet and I have a pack of smarties waiting for you!  And Noah, if you'll draw mommy a picture, I'll give you a pack too!"  (Some might call this...*gasp*...bribery....and SO WRONG! But my kids happen to LOVE it when this occasionally occurs, so we go with it!)

Back to the smarties...After offering Noah a pack, Savannah says, "Awwww...mommy that's caring! You're showing caring!"  Well thank you very much, Savannah.  Oh, and your name looks lovely!

Blessings,

Savannah's Special Book

Does this excite any of you?  I think I could identify a Heritage Makers box 10 yards away!  Inside this one....Savannah's special book.  You've seen Noah's here, and today, Savannah's arrived!  Gladly, she was napping, so I could open it, proof it, and get it ready for her to see!!!
She was so excited to see her special book...all about her, ABC-style!

She LOVED the "F" page where there was a "funny face" picture of her!
And the "Grandparent" page was special too!

Totally worth all the glorious time spent! Have I mentioned I love Heritage Makers? =)

Blessings,

Pray for your Children

Growing up, I remember hearing mama praying. Everywhere.  In the car, in the kitchen, in my bedroom, even the bathroom.  Often, it was for others (including my sister and me)....but on occasion, it was during moments where things just weren't working out right.  You know, like the car wouldn't start.  Or, the rent was due. Or she stumped her toe!  More often than I can possibly remember, I heard prayers lifted up.

I was surrounded by praying people.  Such a blessing, I know. Fast forward 20+ years to yesterday.  My sweet Savannah and Noah left to spend the night with Mimi.  I left with Levi and was headed out to run some errands.  After reaching a stop sign at the end of our road, thinking about Savannah and Noah, I turned off the radio and offered up this prayer:  "Lord, please put angels around my children today.  Please keep them in the very palm of your hand.  Protect them, Lord."  A simple prayer, but from my heart.

Later yesterday evening, I called mom.  She told me of all the fun things they had been doing.  How they had visited my grandparents, and swam in the dog pool! =)  Then, hesitantly, she told me how after leaving our house and getting onto HWY 795, how a fast-moving car swerved into her lane almost hitting her car and how she almost hit the guard rail.

I will NEVER stop praying for my children!

A Double Birthday

Click on collage for larger view

Here is just a glimpse of the fun as we celebrated Savannah's 4th and Noah's 2nd birthday's last Saturday! I hope to have more pics of all the family and friends who helped us celebrate. =) It was a wonderful day! Tacos and cupcakes (forgot the ice cream...found in the freezer later that night). Savannah received a bicycle and Noah, a wagon. And both were blessed with lots of other gifts as well. We are so thankful for our amazing family and friends. You all make these memories even sweeter. =)

Lots of love,

Happy Birthday, Noah.

First of all, this post will be dated July 11, the day after his birthday; however, to me, today was his birthday being that I am just now turning in for the night, blogging from the comforts of my pillow,  soft mattress, and ceiling fan. It is 1:16 am, but today was our little boy's special day and I couldn't sleep without honoring him on this little blog.

We celebrated a double birthday yesterday...honoring Savannah's 4th and Noah's 2nd.  Lots of family and friends joined us and pics will follow soon of yesterday's wonderful day! But TODAY is his birthday, so this is all about Noah's day...from wake-up to bed time.

It began with hot cinnamon rolls, one of his favorites, complete with 2 candles.  He couldn't very well blow out his candles yesterday due to a nice breeze.
But today, SUCCESS!
Then, a little later...after lots of playtime inside with birthday presents, homemade milkshakes and playtime in the yard.

He and Savannah received a sidewalk paint set from Abigail and Josiah.  He loved it!

Let me tell you just a little about the picture below.  Noah was waiting patiently for Savannah to finish with the paint roller because he wanted to use it.  Notice there is a perfectly good brush laying nearby.  Why did he want the roller?  Because she was using it, of course.  After sitting and watching her paint with the roller for what seemed like hours...I finally asked Savannah to give him a turn with it. She laid it down in complete frustration and turned her back, as seen below.  What is not pictured was another level of her frustration....the crossing of the arms and the protrusion of the chin! Yes, she was officially UPSET!
 It matters not to Noah.

The frustration subsided and playtime commenced after they both moved on to other things.

For Noah, that was his red milkshake cup.

Cute is not the word, here.
He received a wagon from Daddy and Mommy.  So much fun to ride with baby brother.
But even MORE fun to pull baby brother!

After heading inside, getting all cleaned up, eating supper, getting into pajamas, and brushing teeth, he received a special birthday gift.
A board book, "Before you were 2, these were a few of your favorite things."  It came in yesterday, but only a short while before the party and I did not want to rush into opening and looking through it just before giving it to him, so we decided to wait until today.

He enjoyed so much looking through the pictures.

Little buddy, your daddy and I cannot tell you how very much we love you. You are special to us in so many ways.  Happy 2nd birthday, Noah.  This year is going to be a great one!

Feeling blessed to be his mommy,

Our Little Garden....and a Simple 4th!

Our July 4th was spent right where we love to be...home.  We were all outside from morning to evening and made lots of small memories.

Like this one...
Savannah pulls the first squash from our little garden!

And yes, we cooked it for dinner.  One squash, four people! =) But, Savannah insisted! (And she really doesn't care for squash)

I'm so disappointed in myself for not taking photos of the garden from its beginning.  Dolan built 2 beautiful garden beds and placed them right next to our "playroom" where the sun touches them mid-morning and we can look out and observe its progress. Our sweet neighbors gave us their "volunteer" tomato plants to grow.  We're unsure of the kind...thinking maybe cherry tomatoes? (Any guesses?)  Regardless, we'll eat them up.  I'm even planning to can some!
And these zucchini beauties are almost ready! They'll be so good stir-fried with squash and onions...or cooked into homemade spaghetti sauce.
We're all thrilled over our watermelon plants (from Mr. Don and Mrs. Marie)! They are doing great.  (So well we had to let them run out of the beds and onto the ground).
Love it!  The kids get so excited to go "check the garden" to see the progress. They are great little helpers!

For our first garden, it has been such a joy to watch.
Our little garden friend given to us many years ago from Dolan's parents.  He fits in perfectly on this little ledge.
I hope to do better and post more photos from the garden.

This is the beginnings of some birthday decorations (custom designed by Savannah and Noah!) Their birthday party is approaching this weekend! =)
The sidewalk chalk is always fun!

Then later, as Daddy grilled, we had a little treat.  For the kids, caramel milk with whipped cream and caramel drizzle.  Yes, they loved it incase you're wondering! =)

For Dolan and me, an iced caramel mocha! Ice on the bottom, about 1 cup strong coffee (I did use decaf though), pour the rest of the way with milk, add lots of squirts of caramel (or chocolate), top with whipped cream, and more squirts of chocolate! Found the recipe on-line.  It was ........REALLY GOOD!

Dolan grilled some yummy bar-b-que chicken, potatoes, and yes, our little squash! Let's eat!

Homemade wheat bread (frozen store-bought dough...it was excellent).
SOMEONE likes a lot of butter!

We hope your 4th was filled with the simple pleasures that memories are made of!

Blessings,
~k.
