How Embarrassing!

I think embarrassing moments just come with territory....you know...of being a mom.  It's been a while since I've really had one.  So I was due.

Just the other day, a friend of mine (and fellow homeschool mom) reminded me of one of the coolest place in our town....the lending library.  We were at the regular library for our weekly story-time/craft when we had the discussion about what wonderful, educational items could be checked out across town at the lending library.  Usually, after an hour of helping a 4 year old pick out books, chasing a 2 year old, feeding snacks to a 12 month old, keeping all still for the duration of a 20 minute story time, and helping with crafts...I'm sort of ready to go home and call it a morning!

Well, I was just too excited.

So, we headed across town and I began the talk.  You know, the one about how it is very important to use our manners, stay close to mommy, use our inside voice, yada, yada, yada.....

We get out and load Levi into the stroller, Noah walks beside me holding the stroller strap, Savannah holds Noah's hand and we head proudly into the overly quiet office building.  I'm feeling good because, we talked!

A nice middle-eastern lady escorts us down a long hallway into what is known as the lending library.  It is a single room with floor to (nearly) ceiling industrial shelving holding more clear plastic tubs than I could possibly count.  I've never seen so many educational items so organized and in one place!  Of course, all tubs are labeled making it easy for mom to pick and choose! =)

As I am noticing the beautifully typed labels, I'm realizing that my 2 year old is also amazed by the room and has wandered out of my sight.

Seconds after my realizing this, the nice lady with her middle-eastern accent raises her eyebrows and says, "Ma'am, are you watching him?  (begins walking dashing to the back of room and around a wall into another area) Ma'am where is your son?" Well, considering it had been about 2 minutes total since we had entered...I had not been that worried, until her questions! Should I be worried, I'm thinking.

She comes back around the corner gently guiding him in front of her and most politely, but assertively makes this request....

"Ma'am would you please monitor your son?  He was on my computer!"

2 minutes inside this place and I am starting to sweat.

I kneel down beside sweet little Noah and remind him of the talk.  We find a toy he is interested in and after checking on Savannah, who is thankfully doing as she was told, I browsed.

Overwhelmed by all the "stuff," I begin to make my allotted 7 choices.  Pumpkin puzzle, Bowling game, little people set, 2 counting peg board sets...  Savannah spots a bright pink bouncy ball and is excitedly asking if we can check it out.  So, the nice lady gets it for her and then kindly gives her permission to bounce with it in the hallway.  How nice.

Noah picked up on what was going on and dashed out the door to join her.  I hear some giggling (including a little from the lady)...and some bouncing.  Then, running.  Then the sound of this...

"Miss, are you finished?  Your children are quite unruly!"

Unruly.  Unruly.  Her words just resound in my head and I can't get past...Unruly.

What is it about that word that makes me think of a child screaming to the top of his lungs at his mother in the grocery store while jumping up and down in the shopping cart crushing all the cereal boxes?

Feeling a little disheartened with my unruly children, I replied calmly AND with a smile, "Yes, ma'am."

She needed to go over all the procedures with me about check-out.  (Oh, and my heart rate is on a continual climb).

I have Savannah and Noah sit down by the door in the hallway.

The lady and I finish and she helps us to the door.

The talk resumes.

You know, as I'm learning how to be a mother (because it really is a never-ending cycle of learning) I'm realizing the task is quite huge.  It involves day by day, hour by hour, minute by minute, second by second guiding...nurturing...modeling...  and the list goes on.  I must see their heart as Christ sees their heart.  I could have scolded, in anger, both of them in that hallway.  But, despite my embarrassment (for my "unruly" children), I saw their hearts.  So, I'm thankful today for that.

So you want to know my prayer? It's simply this.

"Lord, you gave me three precious children to mother.  May I see them as you see them.  May I correct them as you might correct them.  And may they see your unending love through me.  Amen."

What Happens Between Posts?

I admire all the mommy bloggers in the blogosphere who manage to post daily.  While many of them most likely use the great blogging practice of "scheduling" their posts...still!  That takes TIME!  I've done it a few times...not enough.  It's my new goal for this blog.  To write several posts at one time and schedule them.
But, just in case you're wondering why there are gaps in my posting dates...here are a few possible reasons:

(yes, there are precious coupons down there!)

and I just might be enjoying a moment...like *this*
So, no posts in a couple of days...I have my reasons.  =)But, I'll never stop writing...I have the greatest subjects who offer daily inspiration!  Now, if I could just manage my postings!! I'll work on it...promise.

For you bloggers out there, what is the most challenging aspect of blogging to you?

In the Dentist's Chair

The time has come.  She's a big girl.  We must have a visit with the dentist.  We've been talking about this day for weeks to get her ready!  And today was the day! (Consequently, it is also "D" week in our little academy...Gotta love it when that happens.)

She was a BIG girl! Showed only a teensy bit of anxiety...and even that seems too big a word.  So, take a look at this first for Savannah...in the Dentist's chair!

She LOVED the reclining seat!!  Here she is all smiles (and if you listen closely, you'll hear the giggles too).

A pair of sunglasses may come with us next time! She did NOT like that light!

Oh, this was a delight! Kissing the "suctioner." (Probably not the correct term) She thought this was the funniest thing!

In comes the dentist...
who let her hold his TOOLS!
and who made her laugh when he asked her how many tongues she had!
1...2...3... Counting teeth!

Really proud of her!

And for being SO good...she was given a special goody bag and a gift certificate to pizza inn (which she SO wanted to use TODAY).

What little girl doesn't love some new jewels?
A happy girl! (With CLEAN teeth!)

Yes, it's just the dentist...But these are the moments that make me realize how precious life is.  These little "firsts." These milestones that prove over and over again, that children grow up. Fast. So, before I start crying over a post about the dentist, I'll wish you blessings and post.

Happy Father's Day!

He's the daddy who shows up at the mall for his little girl's 4th birthday to surprise her...with balloon in hand.

He's the daddy his little boy looks up to (and looks just like!).

He's the daddy who leads by example and always shows his children how much he loves them.

He's the daddy his little boy runs to when he's hurt.

He's the daddy upon who's strength his baby relies.

And he's the daddy these 3 LOVE!
And this mama sure loves you too.  Thank you for working so hard for us, for loving us, for EVERYTHING you do for our nest.  You are simply the best.
Happy Father's Day babe.

Don't you feel the love?

My boys...
This is a sweet sight, but I'll admit Noah worries me sometimes with his "cuddling."  He doesn't realize his own strength body weight!  All in all, they're precious boys! And look at Levi James' hair in this photo?  Do you see what I see?

"Open up Weevi!"

Like this... Such a good big brother!

I have at least 6 loads of laundry to do, a playroom rug that I can't see, stickers affixed to seemingly every window in my house, a piano covered in dust, and puddles of Johnson & Johnson baby shampoo sticking to my bare feet as I walk down the hallway (because one of those red heads up there has a love for ALL things that can be poured!!) But, I am one contented mama.  I love my babies and their wonderful daddy, who doesn't mind pushing the laundry basket over to find a resting place some night's.  Life is good and I am thankful for God's blessings on my nest.

Life with our Three

Our children are growing before our very eyes.  In an attempt to capture their "right now's," I've written this post.

Levi...
  • loves to laugh hold his breath in pure elation and let out loud cackling sounds to all who smile and talk to him
  • kicks his feet, loudly, in his bed when ready for milk!
  • has the sweetest "coo" sound you've ever heard
  • has many tickle spots
  • can totally handle being pulled by the arm, leg, NECK, you name it...by his older brother
  • rides so well in the car...until he gets hungry.  Then, driver must either pull over or endure extreme crying combined with loud singing of "Jesus Loves Me" intended to calm him, and "Mommy, paci, Mommy, milks, Mommy, Wevi (Levi), milks, paci..." Can you hear them now?
  • loves carrots, sweet potatoes, avocado's, and yogurt!!
  • pulls his blanket up over his face when falling asleep (just to give mommy's heart a good workout).
  • rolls to his belly in the blink of an eye
  • still has a red splotchy birthmark on the back of his neck
  • is an EASY baby!

Noah...
  • continues to be so full of personality!
  • loves to follow his sister around, yet still maintains some independence and is ALL boy
  • loves his "milks!"
  • sleeps in a crib that is pulled away from the wall about 6 inches due to continued banging of head prior to giving in to nap time and bed time.
  • loves to be chased
  • stands, and sometimes sits, at the kitchen gate during any meal prep and repeatedly cries out, "EAT, mommy, EAT. Mommy, eat!"
  • has had a successful attempt at potty time!
  • wants to hold "Wevi" often...and could just sit and hold him as long as allowed!
  • Is learning to pick up during chores and is becoming quite the little helper!
  • Still enjoys climbing onto tables...any table!
  • Can't resist dunking a toy or two every few days in the toilet.
  • Has a contagious laugh.
  • Loves to snuggle and be held, especially when tired.
  • Now has the patience to sit and hold a book for a few minutes by himself (so sweet to watch).
  • Has a growing vocabulary.
  • Displays a well-developed temper on occasion.
  • Loves to join in and sing, "ABC's," "Twinkle, Twinkle," "I've Been Working on the Railroad," "Jesus Loves Me," "He's the King," "Down By the Riverside," "Rock-A-Bye Baby," and more!
  • Gets beyond excited at the mere mumble of the word "BATH."
  • Has daddy and mommy's heart.

Savannah...
  • will be 4 in two months!
  • is our little energizer bunny...an early bird AND a night owl!
  • loves, loves, loves the outdoors.
  • loves to be silly ALOT (especially when Mommy is not in the mood for silly)
  • practices good manners (she says ma'am to everyone...kids and men too)
  • is mommy to many babies/animals...but Dordi is her special girl!
  • finds her way into mommy and daddy's bed in the wee hours of most every morning without either of them knowing (until mommy gets up to feed Levi)...then she wakes up to find herself back in her bed! (most days)
  • has learned many letter sounds and can identify many letters.
  • can quote several bible verses (a large portion of Psalm 23, Romans 3:23, Ephesians 6:1-2)
  • loves her brothers
  • has a beautiful smile and laugh
  • adores books
  • has learned how to use a mouse on the computer and now enjoys computer time right after her nap!
  • still loves a sippy cup full of milk!
  • likes to watch Dora the Explorer and Leap Frog Letter Factory
  • can dress herself (I mean, who cares if shoes are on wrong and shirts are turned backwards?)
  • thinks that "no" means we can keep right on talking about it.
  • is involved in daily chores and has a chore chart (but she does not enjoy making her little bed...and she likes to let us all in on that from time to time)
  • pretends to read stories with amazing attention to detail! She is a little sponge.
  • is a good eater
  • always finds something...interesting...outside!
  • talks very loud and...intense when excited.
  • is very independent and will try anything!
  • has a beautiful heart.
  • will always be mommy and daddy's sunshine!
